SPRING SLAM

The championship game of the Spring Slam at Mountain View was suspended in the top of the sixth inning for darkness after Lake Mead had taken a 3-1 lead on Calvary Chapel.

The game is tentatively scheduled to be concluded Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mountain View, said Saints athletic director Ray LeBoeuf.

Coaches also said athletic directors from both schools would soon discuss a possible date to resume the game, which was halted Saturday shortly after 7 p.m. with one out and Lake Mead having runners on first and second base.

“They’re saying we’re going to (finish the game) at another date, which would be good because both teams earned the right to play for the first-place trophy,” Lake Mead coach Kirk Pierzina said. “We’ll just go with whatever they decide.”

Calvary Chapel coach Martha O’Kelley said she would like to see the game finished, but said she’ll go along with any decision.

“I’m fine with whatever they say,” O’Kelley said. “My focus is on conference. I’m pretty flexible that way, as long as it’s here (at Mountain View).”
