SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Frehner’s sac fly lifts Panthers over Thunderbirds
May 9, 2015 - 8:26 pm
Allyse Frehner’s sacrifice fly to center field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning plated Rachel Bunker with the winning run as host Pahranagat Valley’s softball team topped Indian Springs, 8-7, to win the Division IV Southern League tournament.
Bunker was a courtesy runner for Madalyn Taylor, who started the winning rally with a single. The Panthers (16-6) loaded the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Frehner’s fly ball scored Bunker.
Pahranagat Valley rallied three times in the game, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and three in the bottom of the eighth after the Thunderbirds (20-7) took a 7-4 lead.
