SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Higbee, Panthers rout Thunderbirds

Brook Higbee went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run Saturday to lead Pahranagat Valley to an 18-4 victory over visiting Indian Springs for the Division IV Southern League tournament title.

Morgan Harris and Rachel Bunker also homered for the Panthers (23-7), and Madalyn Taylor and Allyse Frehner each had two hits.

Kaitlyn Davis threw a five-inning one-hitter to get the win. Indian Springs (15-6) scored a run in the top of the first, but the lead din’t last long, as the Panthers answered with five in the first and nine in the second.

Both teams advance to next week’s state tournament.

DIVISION III

Lincoln County earned a 13-5 victory over Needles to claim the Division III Southern League tournament title at Laughlin.

The Lynx (24-8) and Mustangs (20-6) both advance to next week’s state tournament.
