SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Thormahlen, Thunderbirds beat Muckers

Winning pitcher Hannah Thormahlen went 2-for-5 with a triple Thursday to help Indian Springs’ softball team to a 9-5 win over Tonopah in the opening round of the Division IV Southern League tournament in Alamo.
Thormahlen allowed five hits and struck out 12 for the Thunderbirds (8-7), who will face host Pahranagat Valley (20-4) in the winners’ bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday.
Lexi Bayne was 2-for-5 with a home run for the Muckers (2-9), who will meet Sandy Valley (9-7) in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Friday.
Pahranagat Valley 14, Sandy Valley 1 — The Panthers had just five hits, but took advantage of four walks and six hit batters to rout the Sidewinders in five innings.
Kennedy Huntsman tossed a two-hitter and struck out five for Pahranagat Valley.
