SOFTBALL: Centennial earns victory in National Tournament

Deanna Barrera threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts as Centennial’s softball team beat Golden Valley (Calif.) 11-0 in four innings Friday at the National Tournament in Torrance, California.
Brianna Benoit was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs for Centennial. Skyler Ball went 2-for-2 with three runs for the Bulldogs.
Coronado 10, Downey (Calif.) 3 — At Torrance, California, Taylor Okamura had two hits and three RBIs as the Cougars defeated the Vikings in five innings at the National Tournament.
Gianna Gutierrez added two hits and an RBI, and Tatum Spangler had two hits for Coronado.
Spangler went the distance, striking out seven, to get the win.
Rio Mesa (Calif.) 7, Palo Verde 1 — At Torrance, California, Alicia Estrada came within one out of a perfect game and struck out 14 to lead the Spartans by the Panthers in the quarterfinals of the National Tournament.
Cara Beatty’s two-out home run in the top of the seventh broke up Estrada’s perfect game. Grace Chavez followed with a single for Palo Verde’s only two hits.
Valerie Ventura belted a two-run home run in the first inning and added a three-run homer in a five-run second inning for Rio Mesa.
Los Altos (Calif.) 6, Foothill 1 — At Torrance, California, Laila Arditto threw five hitless innings of relief with seven strikeouts to lead the Conquerors over the Falcons in the National Tournament.
Kylie Becker was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Foothill.
Torrance (Calif.) 6, Basic 4 — At Torrance, California, the Wolves rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t complete the comeback against the Tartars.
Sanoe Helenihi and Kelsianna Lupton each drove in two runs for Basic.
Western 19, Chaparral 5 — At Chaparral, Makalita Moeaki doubled and hit a two-run homer to lead the Warrors past the Cowboys in five innings.
Moeaki also struck out six to pick up the win for the Warriors.
Rancho 11, Valley 0 — At Rancho, MacKenzie Perry spun a two-hit shutout to lead the Rams past the Vikings.
Ayanna Potter went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Rancho. Katerina Anthony was 1-for-1 with a triple and a RBI, and Perry went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Rams.
Gabriella Morales went 1-for-2 with a triple for Valley.
Del Sol 18, Clark 2 — At Del Sol, Jazmine Rivera threw 33 pitches — 29 for strikes — to lead the Dragons in a rout of the Chargers in three innings.
Selena Erickson went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to lead Del Sol.
Jeanette Poulsen hit an RBI double, and Rivera went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Dragons.
Faith Lutheran 17, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Faith Lutheran, Clara Heislen had two hits and four RBIs to help the Crusaders to the three-inning win over the Spartans.
Haley Jack had three hits, and Ryleigh Gilchrist had two hits for Faith Lutheran.
Winning pitcher Sophie Foster drove in three runs, and teammate Maggie Whipple had two RBIs.
Arbor View 12, Canyon View (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, Adriana Thomason was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Aggies over the Falcons in the Sunroc Invitational.
Arbor View’s Bryce Henrickson went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Brittany Henrickson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Hannah Hickstein went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Arbor View 10, Manti (Utah) 0 — At St. George, Utah, everybody in the Aggies lineup hit safely as they defeated the Templars in the Sunroc Invitational.
Arbor View’s Taylor Thomas threw a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to get the win.
Bryce Henricksen was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Aggies.
Boulder City 2, Orem (Utah) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Bailey Bennett-Jordan threw a four-hitter with 16 strikeouts as the Eagles edged the Tigers in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Boulder City scored twice in the third inning.
Ryann Reese was 2-for-3 with a run for the Eagles.
South Summit (Utah) 3, Boulder City 1 — At St. George, Utah, Hannah Peterson threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Wildcats beat the Eagles in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Bennett-Jordan hit a solo home run for Boulder City. She also threw five scoreless innings of relief with eight strikeouts.
Desert Hills (Utah) 4, Boulder City 3 — At St. George, Utah, Katelyn Philips was 2-for-4 with four RBIs as the Thunder edged the Eagles in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Jerra Hinson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Boulder City. Marleena Mills was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Eagles.
Eldorado 7, Bonanza 3 — At St. George, Utah, Kristie Thomas struck out 12 for the Sundevils in their six-inning win over the Bengals in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Eldorado 8, Kanab (Utah) 7 — At St. George, Utah, the Sundevils scored a run in the top of the eighth to top the Cowboys in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Harlee Salazar pitched all eight innings to get the win.
Emery (Utah) 13, Eldorado 4 — At St. George, Utah, the Sundevils committed 12 errors in a loss to the Spartans in the March Warm-Up Tournament.
Bishop’s School 21, Lake Mead 3 — At Mountain View, the Knights rolled past the Eagles in the Spring Slam.
Josey White had two hits, and Allee Butz drove in two runs for Lake Mead.
