SOFTBALL: Elena’s double caps crazy comeback as Cougars down Falcons

Alessandra Elena’s RBI double capped an eight-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday as Coronado’s softball team stunned visiting Foothill, 9-8.
The Falcons trailed 8-1 with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the seventh before Sophia McCann singled to start a string of 10 straight hitters to reach base.
Erica Hardy doubled home two runs to make it 8-3. Tatum Spangler reached on an error to trim the lead to 8-4, and Basia Query’s three-run triple cut the lead to 8-7.
Sarah Pinkston singled home Query to tie the game. Pinkston moved to second on Jillian James’ single before scoring on Elena’s double to left-center.
James was 2-for-4, and Brooke Younie went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Coronado.
Hannah Stevens was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs for Foothill. Alexia Campbell went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for the Falcons.
Spring Valley 2, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Spring Valley, Michaela Hood tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Grizzlies by the Trojans.
Madison Macove was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Ellie Endsley was 2-for-3 with a double for Spring Valley. Kelsey Adams and Marlena Adras each went 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies.
Sierra Vista 8, Faith Lutheran 7 — At Sierra Vista, winning pitcher Kalei Watkins was 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and three RBIs as the Mountain Lions nipped the Crusaders.
Taylor DeGuzman was 3-for-4 with a triple for Sierra Vista.
Faith Lutheran’s Mosie Foley went 4-for-4 with a home run and a triple, and Cheyenne Kidd was 3-for-4 with a double for the Crusaders.
Centennial 7, Shadow Ridge 2 — At Centennial, Stephanie Day was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs over the Mustangs 7-2.
Centennial scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away.
Desert Oasis 5, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Desert Oasis, Karly Severance went 2-for-3 to help the Diamondbacks top the Spartans.
Scarlett Hurtado had two RBIs for Desert Oasis, which used a three-run fourth inning to take control.
Winning pitcher Elsy Guzman spun a seven-hitter and struck out four.
Mojave 11, Western 7 — At Western, the Rattlers scored four times in the top of the seventh to beat the Warriors.
Mojave took advantage of 11 errors, six walks and four hit batters.
Alexis Maeoki went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a triple, a double and four RBIs for Western.
Arbor View 13, Bonanza 1 — At Arbor View, Taylor Whalen went 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs as the Aggies routed the Bengals in five innings.
Bryce Henricksen was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Kellie Anderson went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs for Arbor View.
Taylor Thomas threw a one-hitter and struck out six for the Aggies.
Silverado 16, Legacy 3 — At Legacy, Hanna McCall went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Sarah Ford had three RBIs to help the Skyhawks defeat the Longhorns in five innings.
Brandi Splinter was 3-for-4 with a double for Silverado, which broke a 3-3 tie with a seven-run third inning.
Alyssa Gastelum went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs for Legacy.
Rancho 12, Eldorado 4 — At Eldorado, Gianna Carosone had two hits and three RBIs as the Rams topped the Sundevils.
McKinzi Vega and Tiare Lee each had three RBIs for Rancho.
Dayzhell Wilson had three hits for Eldorado.
Green Valley 10, Basic 0 — At Basic, Tara Hilton went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Gators past the Wolves in five innings.
Sophia Marrs went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and teammate Jinger Meuir was 3-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley.
Cheyenne 15, Clark 1 — At Cheyenne, Kaitlyn Dutton tossed a two-hitter and struck out six as the Desert Shields routed the Chargers in five innings.
Taylor Cole was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Cheyenne.
Las Vegas 14, Durango 6 — At Las Vegas, Samantha Taylor and Skylar Gorrell combined on a nine-hitter as the Wildcats downed the Trailblazers.
Lake Mead 25-20, Laughlin 20-34 — At Tuscany Park, Savannah Schmidt had seven hits, including three doubles, to help Lake Mead earn a doubleheader split with the Cougars.
Josey White had five hits, including a home run, and 10 RBIs, and Kayla Freund had six hits and five RBIs for the Eagles.
