SOFTBALL: Finger, Centennial too much for Gorman in Southwest showdown

Alyssa Finger went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Centennial’s softball team exploded for eight runs in the third inning Monday on its way to a 15-3 win over visiting Bishop Gorman in a showdown for first place in the Southwest League.
Savannah Horvath was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Madison Henzlik went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs (21-5, 5-0 Southwest). Ashley Ross went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Bulldogs.
Sierra Dias was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Shelby Estocado went 2-for-3 with a double for Gorman (14-9, 4-1), which got a two-run home run from Dayton Yingling.
Legacy 15, Desert Oasis 14 — At Legacy, Kiani Elia-Mendiola went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, four runs and four RBIs as the Longhorns held off the Diamondbacks.
Alysia Santos was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Lindsey Fishman was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs for Legacy, which took a 15-11 lead into the seventh.
C.J. Wilson was 4-for-5 with a double, triple and five RBIs, and Allison Baney went 4-for-4 with two runs for the Diamondbacks.
Liberty 10, Basic 9 — At Liberty, Tiana Tapuala went 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored to help the Patriots outlast the Wolves.
Jenn Story finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored for Liberty.
Jessica Pittman went 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and three runs scored for Basic.
Indian Springs 22, Sunrise Mountain 21 — At Sunrise Mountain, Hannah Thormahlen drove in seven runs, including a bases-loaded, two-out triple in the seventh inning, to lift the Thunderbirds past the Miners.
Thormahlen finished 4-for-6 with a home run and seven RBIs.
Bethany Connell was 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, and Sydni Beuchat went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Sunrise Mountain.
Cimarron-Memorial 12, Bonanza 5 — At Cimarron, Sarah Murphy went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two runs scored to power the Spartans over the Bengals.
Sarina Cresswell supplied two doubles for the Spartans.
Caitlyn Lloyd finished 2-for-3 with two home runs for Bonanza.
Eldorado 16, Del Sol 6 — At Eldorado, Kerrigan Holman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs to help the Sundevils to the six-inning win over the Dragons.
Keelyn Pacheco was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs for Eldorado.
Del Sol’s Rudie-Armida Soria-Bailey doubled twice and drove in two runs.
Valley 14, Mojave 4 — At Valley, Andrea Darby was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI as the Vikings downed the Rattlers in five innings.
Olivia Ross went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Valley.
Ashley Persico went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run for Mojave.
Chaparral 12, Tech 2 — At Chaparral, the Cowboys took advantage of 15 walks and had just three hits but routed the Roadrunners in five innings.
Lauren Lesniak had a two-run double for Chaparral.
Nicole Lesniak tossed a two-hitter for the Cowboys.
Moapa Valley 24, Desert Pines 5 — At Desert Pines, Summer Owens had three doubles, and the Pirates led 18-0 after two innings and cruised to a five-inning win over the Jaguars.
Hanna Leavitt added two doubles for Moapa Valley.
Boulder City 23, Virgin Valley 4 — At Mesquite, Jessica Holling went 3-for-4, and the Eagles used a pair of 11-run innings to rout the Bulldogs in five innings.
