SOFTBALL: Gorrell, Wildcats hand Rancho first league loss

Skylar Gorrell tossed a four-hitter and struck out six Tuesday as Las Vegas High’s softball team handed visiting Rancho its first loss in Division I Sunrise League play, 4-3.

Gorrell also went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Wildcats, who scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Gianna Carosone homered for the Rams, who already have secured the Sunrise title.

Durango 2, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Durango, Trinity Valentine tossed a two-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Trailblazers by the Spartans.

Keely Thompson’s RBI single in the third inning broke a scoreless tie, and Alexis Geraldo added an RBI single for Durango in the fourth inning.

Cimarron’s Rosie Del Rosario threw a four-hitter.

Foothill 10, Canyon Springs 0 — At Foothill, Sarah Penksa tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Falcons by the Pioneers.

Jazmine Dukes belted a three-run home run in the first inning and finished 3-for-4 for Foothill.

Alexia Campbell went 2-for-3, and Zoe Vandeveer was 1-for-2 with a triple for the Falcons.

Shadow Ridge 12, Bishop Gorman 5 — At Gorman, Shae Clements was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to help the Mustangs clinch at least a share of the Division I Sunset title with a win over the Gaels.

Kate Dennis was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Mia Voges was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Shadow Ridge.

Monique Passalacqua was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Sierra Dias went 2-for-4 with a double and a run for Gorman.

Coronado 11, Eldorado 1 — At Coronado, Basia Query went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Cougars topped the Sundevils in five innings.

Taylor Austin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ashley Ward went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Coronado.

Jazmine Sorchini was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Eldorado.

Palo Verde 14, Legacy 3 — At Legacy, Cara Beatty went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs as the Panthers downed the Longhorns in five innings.

McKenzie Ryan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Makall Whetten was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and three RBIs for Palo Verde.

Alyssa Sotelo was 2-for-3 with a double, and Amanda Sink went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Legacy.

Boulder City 19, Chaparral 2 — At Boulder City, Lily Osman went 3-for-4 with three home runs, including a grand slam, and 10 RBIs to lead the Eagles to a five-inning rout of the Cowboys.

Jerra Hinson was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Kylee Hamel, Jeanne Carmell and Bryanna Lopez each went 3-for-4 for the Eagles, who clinched the Division I-A Sunrise League title.

Charlene Masterson tossed a three-hitter and struck out 11 for Boulder City.

Moapa Valley 4, Tech 3 — At Tech, Karsen Cardinal and Kessa Evans each had two hits to help the Pirates edge the Roadrunners.

Daesha Stastny tossed a five-hitter for Moapa Valley.

Tech’s Gizele Cascos threw a seven-hitter and struck out nine.

Green Valley 11, Silverado 6 — At Silverado, winning pitcher Samantha Loving went 4-for-5 with a home run, double and three RBIs to lead the Gators past the Skyhawks.

Allie Lamb had a double and three RBIs for Green Valley, which jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead.

Alessandra Ponce went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Megan Johnson added a three-run homer for Silverado. Arika Rosales and Sarah Ford each went 2-for-4 for the Skyhawks.

Virgin Valley 3, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Mesquite, the Bulldogs rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Miners.

Taylor Barnum was 2-for-3 with a run for Virgin Valley. Winning pitcher Savannah Price tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10.

Areionna Herrera was 2-for-5 with two doubles, and Andrea Garner was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Sunrise Mountain.

Faith Lutheran 13, Mojave 5 — At Mojave, Samantha Jack had three hits, including two doubles, and the Crusaders scored nine runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Rattlers in the completion of a game that was suspended Thursday due to rain.

Sara Zelazny added a double and two singles, and Claire Peck homered for Faith Lutheran.

Jesika Smith had two hits for Mojave.

Liberty 17, Valley 1 — At Valley, Cali Christopher went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and the Patriots took advantage of eight errors to rout the Vikings in five innings.

Breanna Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for Liberty.

Desert Pines 9, Del Sol 4 — At Desert Pines, Cassandra Bueno was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to help the Jaguars top the Dragons.

Carolina Rodriguez-Mejia was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for Desert Pines.

Maiya Richardson tossed a six-hitter for the Jaguars.

Desert Oasis 9, Basic 3 — At Desert Oasis, Makayla Rickard went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks over the Wolves.

Izriah Hodson was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, and teammate Elsy Guzman went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Desert Oasis, which broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Guzman went the distance to get the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

Sanoe Helenihi went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run for Basic.

Lincoln County 8-19, White Pine 6-7 — At Ely, Josie Burgess homered and doubled in both games as the Lynx swept the Bobcats.

Sarah Butler went 2-for-3 in the opener for Lincoln County, which took an 8-2 lead into the seventh inning and held on.

In the nightcap, Kia Phillips was 5-for-5 with a double, and Abby Schimbeck went 3-for-4 for Lincoln County, which also got a home run and a double from Cameron Lloyd.

White Pine’s Debra Kingston and Brenna Williams both homered in the second game.

The Meadows 25-24, Mountain View 13-14 — At The Meadows, winning pitcher Rachel Siegel went 3-for-4 with a double in the opener as the Mustangs swept a pair of five-inning games from the Saints.

Amanda Hansen had a three-run triple in the second game for The Meadows, which ended the game with a nine-run fifth inning.

Jordan Spriggs went 2-for-4 in the opener for Mountain View, and teammate Valerie Gonzalez went 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

Lake Mead 19, Calvary Chapel 7 — At West Flamingo Park, Josey White went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs and three RBIs as the Eagles topped the Lions in five innings.

Jennilyn Villalba was 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs for Lake Mead, which had just five hits but drew 22 walks.

Jillian Criscuolo was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Alyssa Garcia was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Calvary Chapel.
