SOFTBALL: Martin helps Crusaders hold off Trojans late rally

Makena Martin recorded a strikeout with the potential tying and winning runs in scoring position and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday as Faith Lutheran’s softball team held on for a 7-6 win at Pahrump Valley.

The Trojans trailed 7-2 entering the seventh and scored four times before Martin closed the door.

Martin also went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Breanna Hemphill was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Crusaders.

Ryleigh Gilchrist and Cheyenne Kidd each went 2-for-4 for Faith Lutheran.

Jordan Egan was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Pahrump. Amaya Mendoza had two doubles, and Maddisson Hurley added two singles for the Trojans.

Liberty 10, Silverado 6 — At Silverado, winning pitcher Breanna Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Patriots top the Skyhawks.

McKenna Hefley was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Ashleigh Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs for Liberty.

Taryn Southerland went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hanna McCall was 3-for-5 for Silverado, which got home runs from Madison Sisco and Jessica Chamberlain.

Shadow Ridge 6, Durango 2 — At Durango, Shelbi Denman tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts and belted a grand slam to lift the Mustangs over the Trailblazers.

Justin Garganese was 3-for-4, and Isabelle Scarale went 2-for-3 with a double for Shadow Ridge.

Trinity Valentine had a two-run double for Durango.

Sunrise Mountain 15, Desert Pines 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Andrea Garner threw a five-inning one-hitter with 13 strikeouts to help the Miners top the Jaguars.

Sara Kinsey and Zoey Ruiz each finished 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run. Kinsey also had a double and two RBIs for the Miners, who got a double and three runs from Brittany Miller.

Las Vegas 15, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Samanatha Taylor tossed a five-inning one-hitter to lead the Wildcats by the Pioneers.

Melina Fabian doubled and drove in three runs for Las Vegas.

Chaparral 6, Tech 5 — At Chaparral, winning pitcher Losi Brown was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to help the Cowboys nip the Roadrunners.

Crystal Clark was 3-for-3 with three runs, and Alex Montoya went 2-for-2 for Chaparral, which got a solo home run from Nayeli Rivas.

Gizele Cascos was 2-for-3, and Julia Lopez went 2-for-4 for Tech.

Boulder City 6, Moapa Valley 1 — At Overton, Alyssa Ybarra, Kylee Hamel, Jessica Embro and Jordan Moorhead each went 2-for-4, and the Eagles used a five-run sixth inning to top the Pirates.

Kyla Shumway was 2-for-3 for Moapa Valley, and teammate Kinlee Marshall went 2-for-4.

Virgin Valley 25, Del Sol 6 — At Del Sol, Tylee Robison and Jessica Barnum each went 4-for-5 to help the Bulldogs rout the Dragons in five innings.

Janella Fiso had three hits, including a home run and a double, for Virgin Valley.

Nicki Zuniga was 2-for-3, and Alina Marruffo went 1-for-2 with a home run for Del Sol.

Calvary Chapel 20-14, Laughlin 3-4 — At West Flamingo Park, Meghan Phillips was a combined 6-for-8 with two doubles, a grand slam and 11 RBIs as the Lions swept a pair of five-inning games from the Cougars.

Phillips was 2-for-4 in the opener and 4-for-4 in the second game.

Justyne Boggio was 3-for-3 in each game, and Kayla Johnson was the winning pitcher in both games for Calvary Chapel.

Laughlin’s Jalynn Quibell was 2-for-3 in the opener, and teammate Lori Morgan went 2-for-3 with a home run in the second game for the Cougars.
