SOFTBALL: Shelby Basso’s RBI double lifts Basic over Rancho

Shelby Basso hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Basic’s softball team a 3-2 home victory over Rancho on Thursday.

Mikayla Berg started the rally with a double off the fence. Basso followed that with a chopper over the third baseman that rolled all the way to the fence to score the go-ahead run.

Basso went the distance, allowing one earned run on five hits, to get the victory for the Wolves. She struck out three and walked three.

Alyssa Ferguson went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Basic.

Cheyenne 8, Western 4 — At Cheyenne, Madelynn Kennedy tossed seven solid innings, striking out eight and yielding no earned runs to earn the win, as the Desert Shields defeated the Warriors.

Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a two-run double for Cheyenne, which got two doubles and an RBI from Kylie Clark.

Jannessa Dunton supplied two hits to pace Western.

Desert Oasis 13, Bonanza 2 — At Desert Oasis, the Diamondbacks pounded out 20 hits en route to the five-inning victory.

Elsy Guzman and Holly Severence each went 3-for-4 with a double, and Izriah Hodson was 3-for-5 with a double for Desert Oasis, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Meagan Anders, Meaghan McInerney, Scarlett Hurtado, Jaid Raval and Jada Moreno each added two hits for the Diamondbacks.

Guzman also went the distance, allowing one earned run on four hits, to get the win.

Brianna Hernandez-Silva doubled for Bonanza.

Bishop Gorman 13, Spring Valley 2 — At Spring Valley, winning pitcher Darian Pancirov doubled, tripled and drove in three runs to lead the Gaels past the Grizzlies in five innings.

Reyna Martin doubled and had a two-run, inside-the-park home run for the Gaels.

Mia Weckel also doubled, and Hannah Gondini tripled and drove in two runs for Bishop Gorman.

Teegan Teal went 2-for-3 to lead the Grizzlies.

Pahrump Valley 10, Mojave 0 — At Pahrump, Terrena Martin went 4-for-4 with three runs, and Samantha Riding was 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Trojans blanked the Rattlers in six innings.

Jordan Egan had a two-run home run, and Jill Smith belted a solo homer. Skylar Lauver and Hailee Danneker each hit a double for Pahrump, which scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to enact the run rule.

Krista Toomer and Amaya Mendoza combined on a three-hitter.

Chaparral 20, Clark 9 — At Clark, Losi Brown earned the win after striking out eight over three hitless innings, and the Cowboys broke a 9-9 tie with 11 runs in the top of the fourth to pull away from the Chargers.

Berenise Ibanez was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Tabitha Mabry went 1-for-2 with four RBIs for Chaparral, which benefited from 22 walks.

Sharon Vernaz doubled for Clark.

Foothill 15, Canyon Springs 0 — At Foothill, Sadie Christian tossed a three-inning one-hitter, and Kylie Becker went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in the Falcons’ win over the Pioneers.

Caitlyn Stevenson tripled and had two RBIs, and Katelyn Enzweiler went 2-for-2 with three runs for Foothill, which got doubles from Haleigh Olive and Skylar Glaude.

Amaya Youngblood had Canyon Springs’ lone hit.

Pahranagat Valley 6-17, Round Mountain 3-1 — At Round Mountain, the Panthers swept a doubleheader from the Knights.

Kaitlyn Davis struck out seven in a three-hitter, and Rachel Bunker went 2-for-4 to help Pahranagat Valley take the opener.

Aryana Cuellar had a two-run double for Round Mountain.

In the nightcap, Ashlyn Wadsworth tossed a three-inning two-hitter with four strikeouts, and Morgan Harris, Kyla Shumway and Alyson Egbert each hit home runs to lead the Panthers to victory. Morgan Harris and Madison Harris also tripled, and Kaitlyn Davis doubled for Pahranagat Valley.

Alyssa Hanks tripled for the Knights.

Beaver Dam 29-33, Sandy Valley 16-25 — At Sandy Valley, the Diamondbacks swept a doubleheader from the Sidewinders.
