SOFTBALL: Thomas, No. 5 Aggies hold off No. 2 Bulldogs

Taylor Thomas tossed a six-hitter and struck out eight Friday to lead host Arbor View’s softball team to a 3-1 win over No. 2 Centennial.

Brittany Henricksen’s two-run single in the bottom of the third inning put the No. 5 Aggies ahead to stay.

Marissa Bachman was 2-for-3 with a double, and Kellie Anderson was 2-for-3 for Arbor View.

Brianna Benoit went 3-for-3 with a double for the Bulldogs.

Coronado 10, Green Valley 1 — At Coronado, Jillian James threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run to lead the Cougars by the Gators.

Basia Query was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Coronado. Dylan Underwood went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Brooke Younie was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Sarah Pinkston drove in three runs for the Cougars.

Jinger Meuir was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Green Valley.

Rancho 2, Foothill 0 — At Rancho, Gianna Carosone’s pinch-hit, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the Rams by the Falcons.

Samantha Pochop tossed a two-hitter and struck out 13 for Rancho. Pochop and McKinzi Vega each went 2-for-3 for Rancho.

Spring Valley 2, Sierra Vista 1 — At Sierra Vista, Michaela Hood tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Grizzlies by the Mountain Lions.

Madison Hood’s two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning provided all the offense Spring Valley needed.

Kalei Watkins tossed a five-hitter and struck out 11 for Sierra Vista.

Western 9, Clark 8 — At Western, winning pitcher Lita Maeoki singled home Alexis Maeoki with the eventual winning run with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Warriors by the Chargers.

Alexis Maeoki’s RBI triple earlier in the inning plated Mireya Villela with the tying run. Alexis Maeoki went 4-for-4 with a double and triple. Lita Maeoki was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Antoinette Martinez-Tili was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Stephanie Warren and Kataryna Jaworsky each went 2-for-4 for Clark.

Bishop Gorman 4-10, Canyon View (Utah) 3-6 — At Gorman, Jasmine Gibson singled home the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh of the opener and went 3-for-4 in the nightcap to lead the Gaels to a sweep of the Falcons.

Gorman trailed 3-0 in the seventh inning of the first game before Hannah Gondini stroked a three-run double with one out. Gibson followed with the winning hit. Reyna Martin and Sierra Dias each went 2-for-3 in the first game for Gorman.

In the nightcap, the Gaels scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie.

Basic 15, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Lexi Edmunds tossed a six-inning three-hitter to lead the Wolves by the Sundevils.

Adalena Clayton, Izabelle Morales, Alyssa Ferguson and Edmunds each had two hits, and Courtney Huff had two RBIs for the Wolves, who used a five-run fourth inning and a six-run sixth to pull away.

Cimarron-Memorial 18, Bonanza 4 — At Bonanza, Shelby Telford had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Spartans by the Bengals in five innings.

Maraya Valdez had two hits and an RBI for Cimarron, which had just eight hits.

Caitlyn Lloyd was 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple for Bonanza.

Cheyenne 16, Mojave 3 — At Cheyenne, Alexis Gojkovich went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a two-run homer and four RBIs as the Desert Shields routed the Rattlers in five innings.

Jaylyn Ridgeway went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Taylor Cole went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Cheyenne, which got a solo home run from Destiny Gain.

Kaitlyn Dutton tossed a four-hitter and struck out nine for Cheyenne.

Valley 15, Tech 1 — At Valley, Kristina Manthei tossed a five-inning two-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 1-for-2 with a double, three runs and three RBIs as the Vikings routed the Roadrunners.

Baylee Wieslander was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Gabriella Morales went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI for Valley. Shannon Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Vikings.

Avery Rayos went 1-for-2 with a triple and a run for Tech.

Shadow Ridge 11, Legacy 1 — At Legacy, Justin Garganese went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Mustangs past the Longhorns.

Marisa Miano also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Mustangs, who broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth.

Shelbi Denman and Isabelle Scarale combined on a four-hitter for Shadow Ridge.

Las Vegas 6, Boulder City 5 — At Boulder City, winning pitcher Skyler Gorrell went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and the Wildcats took advantage of errors to score three runs in the top of the seventh and nip the Eagles.

Sabrina Saldate was 2-for-4 for Las Vegas.

Jessica Embro was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Charlene Masterson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Boulder City.

Indian Springs 9, Virgin Valley 7 — At Mesquite, winning pitcher Hannah Thormahlen had a three-run double in a four-run fifth inning that lifted the Thunderbirds by the Bulldogs.

Tylee Robison had two hits for Virgin Valley.

Lincoln County 31-26, Agassi Prep 9-2 — At Panaca, Cameron Lloyd went 5-for-6 with two triples and two doubles in the opener and 2-for-4 with two doubles in the nightcap as the Lynx rolled to a pair of five-inning wins over the Stars.

Kia Phillips homered and doubled, and Easton Tingey homered and drove in three runs in the first game for Lincoln County, which pounded out 29 hits.

In the finale, Aspen Wilkin and Lloyd combined on a no-hitter. Hannah Lytle belted a grand slam, and Phillips, Tingey and Sarah Butler each had two doubles for the Lynx.

Needles 18-20, The Meadows 0-3 — At Needles, Calif., Needles rolled to a pair of five-inning wins over The Meadows.
