ROUNDUP: Branch’s backstroke win helps Panthers boys take third in Las Vegas Invitational

Michael Branch won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.86 seconds to help Palo Verde’s boys swimming team place third among 11 teams at the Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday at UNLV.
Northwood (Calif.) won with 549 points. Kennedy (Calif.) was second with 387½, followed by Palo Verde with 369 and Silverado with 247.
Palo Verde’s Dalton Rios captured the 1-meter diving competition with 246.85 points.
Spring Valley’s Dylan Wolf took the 200 freestyle in 1:45.16.
Bonanza 161, Liberty 91 — At Multi-Generational, Lorenzo Franzese, Zach Sassler and Cody Luong each won two individual events to carry the Bengals past the Patriots.
Franzese took the 100 butterfly in 1:13.55 and 200 freestyle in 2:24.08; Sassler won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.44 and 500 freestyle in 6:00.96; and Luong won the 200 individual medley in 2:38.28 and 100 breaststroke in 1:20.01.
Boulder City 177, Coronado 123 — At Multi-Generational, Andrew Peterson and Gunner Braden each took two individual events to help the Eagles defeat the Cougars.
Peterson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.72 and 200 freestyle in 1:52.55, and Braden captured the 50 (22.12) and 100 freestyles (50.31).
Coronado’s Jacob Luna won the 100 butterfly in 52.27 and 100 backstroke in 56.49.
Cimarron-Memorial 90½, Chaparral 45½  — At Multi-Generational, McKay Prestwich won two freestyles in unconventional fashion as the Spartans downed the Cowboys.
Prestwich swam a butterfly to win the 50 freestyle in 26.81, and swam a 500 individual medley to win the 500 freestyle in 6:03.01.
Cimarron’s Charles Bernardino took the 100 backstroke in 1:14.62 and 200 freestyle in 2:11.49.
Faith Lutheran 177, Eldorado 78 — At Multi-Generational, Nick Price and Evan Alioto each won two individual events to lead the Crusaders past the Sundevils.
Price won the 50 (24.65) and 200 freestyles (2:01.76), and Alioto took the 100 backstroke in 1:13.55 and 500 freestyle in 5:47.01.
Desert Oasis 145, Western 58 — At Desert Breeze, Kyle Silveroli won the 50 freestyle in 26.9 and 500 freestyle in 6:42.39 to help the Diamondbacks defeat the Warriors.
Arbor View 171, Durango 102 — At Desert Breeze, Ryan Meservey and Marc Belizario won two individual events apiece as the Aggies beat the Trailblazers.
Meservey won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.17 and 200 individual medley in 2:29.18, and Belizario won the 50 (23.3) and 500 freestyles (5:49.96).
Durango’s Andrew Ward won the 100 freestyle in 53.52 and 100 breaststroke in 1:09.45.
