SWIMMING: Garcia, Angell help Chaparral girls down Miners

Santana Garcia and Kaitlin Angell each won two individual events Saturday at Municipal to lead Chaparral’s girls swimming team to a 136-118 win over Sunrise Mountain.

Garcia won the 100-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 7.22 seconds and the 200 freestyle in 2:26.79, and Angell took the 200 individual medley in 2:59.28 and the 100 butterfly in 1:31.52.

Spring Valley 163, Durango 97 — At Municipal, the Grizzlies swept the three relays and had five individuals each win one event en route to a victory over the Trailblazers.

Durango’s Anna Ward won the 200 freestyle in 2:23.94 and the 500 freestyle in 6:23.15.

Desert Pines 98, Virgin Valley 79 — At Municipal, Becca Hernandez and Xiomara Barahona each won twice to guide the Jaguars by the Bulldogs.

Hernandez took the 100 freestyle in 1:09.66 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:30.94, and Barahona claimed the 50 freestyle in 29.85 and the 500 freestyle in 7:25.4.

Virgin Valley’s Brandy Montague won the 100 backstroke in 1:19.49 and was first in diving with 98.9 points.

Tech 205, Moapa Valley 37 — At Municipal, Casey Halloway and Mandie Stanton each had two wins as the Roadrunners swam by the Pirates.

Halloway took the 50 freestyle in 30.02 and the 100 freestyle in 1:07.81, and Stanton claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.34 and the 500 freestyle in 6:50.71.

Coronado 232, Liberty 65 — At Multi-Generational, Shyla Swan and Shannon Welch each won two individual events to power the Cougars over the Patriots.

Swan won the 200 individual medley (2:23.96) and 100 butterfly (1:04.73), and Welch won the 100 freestyle (1:00.72) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.78).

Valley 151, Canyon Springs 92 — At Multi-Generational, Emma Maritz won the 200 freestyle (2:20.49) and 100 freestyle (1:06.55) to lead the Vikings to victory over the Pioneers.

Silverado 211, Rancho 85 — At Multi-Generational, Soleil Salazar won the 200 individual medley (2:35.68) and 100 freestyle (58.69) to lead the Skyhawks over the Rams.

Rancho’s Patricia Matha was first in the 50 freestyle (27.65) and 100 breaststroke (1:20.96), and teammate Tonicia Thomas won the 100 butterfly (1:03.68) and 100 backstroke (1:01.01).

Boulder City 153, Palo Verde 113 — At Desert Breeze, Becca Lelles, Alex Hubel, Rachael Grothe and Cori Molisee each won two individual events, and the Eagles captured every swimming event to down the Panthers.

Lelles won the 200 individual medley (2:16.27) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.55), Hubel took the 200 freestyle (1:54.81) and 50 freestyle (24.84), Grothe won the 100 butterfly (58.94) and 100 backstroke (1:02.14) and Molisee was first in the 100 freestyle (53.31) and 500 freestyle (5:10.14).

Palo Verde 158 Arbor View 154 — At Desert Breeze, Xan Rafie and Karla Garcia each took two events as the Panthers edged the Aggies.

Rafie won the 200 freestyle (2:09.34) and 500 freestyle (5:48.2), and Garcia took the 200 individual medley (2:32.94) and 100 butterfly (1:07.52).

Arbor View’s Tara Gallagher was first in the 50 freestyle (27.41) and 100 freestyle (1:00.31).

Basic 187, Del Sol 55 — At Multi-Generational, Melanie Harris won the 200 freestyle (2:02.69) and 100 butterfly (1:00.65) as the Wolves defeated the Dragons.

Morgan Hartley of Del Sol completed a difficult double, winning the 200 individual medley (3:06.3) and 500 freestyle (6:5.85).

Green Valley 174, Las Vegas 114 — At Multi-Generational, Brooke Ivey and Deidra Dorough captured two events apiece and the Gators swept the relays in a victory over the Wildcats.

Ivey won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.31 and added the 100 butterfly in 1:03.34. Dorough was first in the 500 freestyle (5:39.52) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.92).

April Martinez was Las Vegas’ lone winner, taking the 50 freestyle in 26.84.

Foothill 165, Eldorado 120 — At Multi-Generational, Marley Bindrup won back-to-back events, and the Falcons slipped past the Sundevils.

Bindrup was first in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 26.53 before coming right back to win the 100 butterfly in 1:02.0.

Stacey Cuevas won two events for Eldorado, capturing the 200 individual medley (2:29.5) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.2).

Shadow Ridge 185, Sierra Vista 115 — At Multi-Generational, Caroline Brereton won two events, and the Mustangs took seven of the nine individual events to beat the Mountain Lions.

Brereton took first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.28) and the 100 backstroke in 1:08.03.

Polina Frolova of Sierra Vista finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:33.82) and the 100 butterfly (1:12.02).

Desert Oasis 174, Cimarron-Memorial 98 — At Desert Breeze, Karen Kurosawa and Haley Leavitt each won twice to lead the Diamondbacks past the Spartans.

Kurosawa took the 50 freestyle in 26.81 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.75. Leavitt was first in the 100 backstroke 1:16.75 and 100 freestyle 1:03.8.

Faith Lutheran 199, Cheyenne 49 — At Desert Breeze, Rori Conners won the 200 freestyle (2:12.4) and 500 freestyle (5:40.19) to lead the Crusaders over the Desert Shields.

Cheyenne’s Destinee Larosee was first in the 200 individual medley (2:35.22) and 100 butterfly (1:10.37).

Bonanza, Centennial top Legacy
At Desert Breeze, Centennial’s Bella Bendor, Maddie Cartmill and Kelsey Mitchell each won twice to lead the Bulldogs to a 232-66 win over Legacy.

Bendor won the 200 individual medley (2:36.0) and 100 breaststroke (1:26.62), Cartmill took the 200 freestyle (2:06.0) and 100 freestyle (58.12) and Mitchell was first in the 50 freestyle (27.34) and 100 backstroke (1:10.12).

Bonanza also beat the Longhorns, 171-79.
