Top athletes: Marshall Nelson, Mark Thuet, Manny Gegen, Jon Lai, Levon Grigoryan, Chase Kasday, Blake Kasday, Anthony Romaine, T.J. Faucher

Outlook: The Bengals return six lettermen from a team that qualified for the Sunset Region playoffs last year.

“The sky is the limit,” Herbert said. “There are players who have the combination of desire and athleticism that is ideal. The depth of the team is also a strength. The Bengals don’t lose much moving down the lineup.”

The Meadows’ Sophia Yang claimed her fourth consecutive state title in the Class 4A girls singles final Saturday. Two Adelson School players also defended their titles.

The individual and doubles boys state tennis tournament began Monday and ends Friday. State tournaments also are scheduled for girls tennis and girls golf.
