BOYS TENNIS: Desert Oasis downs Clark in tiebreaker to reach Sunset final

Ben Gajardo went 3-0 in singles, and Desert Oasis’ boys tennis team defeated host Clark 10-9 in a tiebreaker on Saturday in the Class 4A Sunset Region semifinals.

The Diamondbacks (10-4) won the tiebreaker 4-2 after the teams tied 9-9 and will face six-time defending region champion Palo Verde (15-0) in the championship match at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

Michael Pasimio and Teo Tabar went 3-0 in doubles for Clark (15-1), which captured the past four Class 3A (then Division I-A) state titles.

Palo Verde 13, Bishop Gorman 5 — At Palo Verde, the Panthers swept the singles sets to down the Gaels and advance to final.

Palo Verde’s trio of Dylan Levitt, Jack Kostrinksy and Axel Botticelli all posted 3-0 marks in singles play.

Michael Safbom and Hayden Huckfeldt combined for a 2-1 mark in doubles for the Panthers.

Grant Rogers and Michael Connors were 2-1 in doubles for Gorman (14-2).

CLASS 4A SUNRISE REGION

Coronado 16, Foothill 2 — At Coronado, Philip Potamitis and Martin Rizov each went 3-0 in singles as the Cougars (15-1) defeated the Falcons (9-6) in the Sunrise Region semifinals.

Coronado, which has won 11 straight region titles, will play Green Valley (10-2) in the final at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

The doubles teams of Joshua Egbert and Wesley Harris, and Sebastian Frace and Ethan Quandt finished 2-0 for Coronado.

Green Valley 14, Liberty 4 — At Green Valley, the Gators defeated the Patriots (5-8) to advance to the region final.

CLASS 3A SOUTHERN REGION

Boulder City 15, Desert Pines 3 — At Boulder City, Bretton Erlanger and Andre Pappas went 3-0 in singles to lead the Eagles past the Jaguars (14-6) in the Class 3A Southern Region semifinals.

Boulder City (12-0) will meet The Meadows (15-1) in the championship match at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center.

Boen Huxford and Preston Jorgensen went 3-0 in doubles for the Eagles.

Karson Bailey and Tanner Montgomery, and Garrett Leavitt and Clayton Pendleton went 2-1 in doubles for Boulder City.

The Meadows 17, Virgin Valley 1 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs routed the Bulldogs (11-4) to reach the region final.
