Faith Lutheran’s Benowitz wins Northwest Singles tourney

Faith Lutheran's Jake Benowitz captured the boys title in the Northwest Singles tournament Saturday at Cimarron-Memorial, defeating Arbor View's Manuel Portillo, 6-2, 7-5.
 
The opening game of the match lasted 29 points, including 12 deuces, and set the tone for a competitive battle.
 
Benowitz had advanced to the final by defeating Cimarron's Aaron Bowers in a three-set quarterfinal and downing Legacy's Anthony Moced in straight sets in the semifinal.
 
Portillo drew a quarterfinal bye before outlasting Cimarron's Brian Grupe in a three-set semifinal.
