STATE TENNIS: Gorman’s Bailey earns final boys singles berth

Bishop Gorman's Aaron Bailey breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Coronado's Kyle Harris on Wednesday at the Darling Tennis Center to earn the final boys singles spot in the Division I state tournament.

Third-place finishers in the Sunrise Region tournament met the third-place finishers in the Sunset Region to determine the final state quarterfinal berths in each of the four flights.

In boys doubles, Gorman's Lucas Hammond and Cole Davidson defeated Basic's Trever Berg and Thomas Romero, 6-2, 6-4.

In girls singles, Palo Verde's Kristen Newell was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Coronado's Nikoletta Nikoloff.

In girls doubles, Palo Verde's Shelby Graber and Kaya Richardson outlasted Green Valley's Olivia Nhaisi and Megan Madrid, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The team portion of the state tournament begins Thursday at the Darling center.

The singles and doubles portion of the tournament starts Friday afternoon at the Darling center.
