SUNSET REGION: Bonanza doubles teams use tiebreaker routs to lift Bengal boys past Mustangs

Bonanza’s doubles teams of Craig Whiting and Cru Leavitt, and Trevor Jacobson and Reed Thuet won their three regulation sets Monday, but both teams saved the best work for a winner-take-all tiebreaker.

Both teams won tiebreaker games 7-1 and lifted the host Bengals (11-1) to a 10-9 win over The Meadows (7-4) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Bonanza swept the nine doubles sets, and The Meadows’ Max Novak, Evan Roth and Ryan Wells took the nine singles sets, forcing the tiebreaker.

Each team won three of the six tiebreakers, but Bonanza scored 32 points to the Mustangs’ 29 in the tiebreakers, giving the Bengals the win.

Bonanza’s Chris Pace paired with two different partners to win three doubles sets.

Palo Verde 15, Spring Valley 3 — At Palo Verde, the Panthers (12-0) won all but three singles matches and advanced to host Bonanza on Wednesday.

Palo Verde’s doubles teams of Zach Bellon and Jeremy Mann, and Tanner Berkabile and Ozzy Abraham each went 2-0.

Ishmael Gibson was 3-0 in singles for the Grizzlies (7-5).

Centennial 12, Clark 6 — At Centennial, the doubles teams of Drake Sacenti and Casey Moses, and Dallan Johnson and Greg Madsen each went 3-0 as the Bulldogs (11-1) eliminated the Chargers (10-3).

Lucas Lee and Travis Beck each finished 2-0 in singles for Centennial, and teammates Josh Arias and Brandon Fish were 2-0 in doubles.

Clark’s Kris Yee went 3-0 in singles.

Bishop Gorman 14, Faith Lutheran 4 — At Gorman, Kyle Del Rosario and Cody Miller each went 3-0 in singles to lead the Gaels (9-2) past the Crusaders (8-5).

Ryan Hidajat and Greg Ciucci were 2-0 in doubles for Gorman, which will host Centennial on Wednesday.

Tom Trowbridge and Jake Benowitz teamed to go 2-1 in doubles for Faith Lutheran.
