Sara Bessen went 3-0 in singles in her first high school match Friday to lead defending state champion Bishop Gorman to a 12-6 win at Coronado.
Blair Bigelow and Allie Beckett combined to go 3-0 in doubles for the Gaels.
Janelle Espinosa and Ilyssa Popowcer each went 2-1 in singles for the Cougars.
The Meadows’ Sophia Yang claimed her fourth consecutive state title in the Class 4A girls singles final Saturday. Two Adelson School players also defended their titles.
The Meadows boys tennis team won the Class 4A state title Friday in Reno. The Boulder City boys and girls lost to Northern teams in the 3A title matches.

Last season ended in disappointing fashion for The Meadows’ tennis program after the boys and girls teams lost in the state finals, but both will get another chance this week.
Bishop Gorman senior Mark Lapko became the fourth boy to win three straight singles state championships Friday. Palo Verde’s Remi Rice claimed the girls title.
The individual and doubles boys state tennis tournament began Monday and ends Friday. State tournaments also are scheduled for girls tennis and girls golf.
