Johnesee, Thomas double up Northwest Doubles field

Kate Johnesee and Starlyn Thomas normally are slotted into Cimarron-
Memorial's top two singles spots.

On Saturday, they proved to be a formidable doubles team, too.

Johnesee and Thomas combined to win three matches and take first place in the Northwest Doubles Invitational on their home court. The Spartan duo captured the title in style, defeating Shadow Ridge's Catherine Cabo and Jennifer Andrade, 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.

Johnesee and Thomas began their day by downing Palo Verde's Nikki Levy and Krysta Levy, 6-1, 6-2, then won by default in the semifinals.

The two Palo Verde teams that advanced to the semifinals had work commitments and defaulted the matches.
