Basic’s Harris shines in Sunrise freshmen-sophomore meet

Frank Harris had a perfect day Saturday, winning four individual events at the Sunrise Region Freshmen-Sophomore boys meet at Green Valley.

The Basic sophomore finished first in the 100-meter dash in 11.15 seconds and the 200 in 22.7. He cleared 6 feet to take the high jump and claimed the long jump with an effort of 20-4.

Green Valley sophomore Lenny Rubi won the 800 in 2:04.78, just seven one-hundredths of a second faster than Coronado’s Matt Candelaria. Rubi also took the 1,600 in 4:36.19 and the 3,200 in 10:21.22.

Rubi’s effort helped the Gators win the team title with 113 points. Las Vegas was second with 107, and Basic took third with 98.

Valley sophomore Niko Christian won the 110 hurdles in 16.39 and was first in the triple jump with a distance of 40-4¼.

GIRLS

Sydney Groom and Litia Ortquist each won two individual events to help Liberty claim the team title in the girls meet.

Groom won the 400 in 1:00.3 and took the 800 in 2:31.73.

Ortquist swept the throws, winning the discus with an throw of 102-4 and the shot put with an effort of 31-8½.

The Patriots finished with 134.33 points. Green Valley was second with 112.5, followed by Silverado with 88.
