BOYS TRACK: Mwirigi, James lead Wildcats to victory

Kode Mwirigi and Tre James each won two events Wednesday to lead Las Vegas High’s boys track team to an 84-58 win over visiting Silverado.

Mwirigi won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.1 seconds, and was first in the 1,600 in 5:05.0. James was first in the 100 (10.5) and 200 (21.7).

Gators top Rams

At Green Valley, Brady Williams won two individual field events in the Gators’ 88½-57½ victory over Rancho.

Williams won the shot put with a mark of 53 feet, 7 inches, and was first in the discus at 145-1.

Roger Ward was a double-winner for Rancho, taking first in the 300 hurdles (45.0) and the long jump (17-11¼).

Wolves win three-team meet

At Basic, Frank Harris won three individual events, and Van Barrel, Kendrick Peterson and Wallonzo Whipple each won two events to help the Wolves take a three-team meet.

The Wolves scored 135 points to easily defeat Eldorado (34) and Indian Springs (5).

Harris was first in the high jump (6-7), long jump (19-9) and 100 meters (no time reported).

Barrel won both hurdles events, taking the 110s in 14.9 and the 300s in 45.9, while Peterson was first in the 400 (57.9) and the 1,600 (4:45.3). Whipple swept the throws, winning the shot put in 40-7 and the discus in 108-0.

Vikings beat Pioneers

At Canyon Springs, Brendan Orphan won three events to lead Valley to a 76-60 win over the Pioneers.

Orphan was first in the 110 hurdles (15.7), the high jump (5-0) and the triple jump (40-7).

Shea Garland took the shot put (46-5½) and discus (114-2) for Valley.

Canyon Springs’ Luis Gutierrez won the 800 (2:10.44) and 1,600 (4:52.8).

Cougars roll by Falcons

At Coronado, Koy Harris won the 300 hurdles in 41.78 and was second in the long jump and triple jump to lead the Cougars to a 114½-26½ win over Foothill.

Walker Wright won the long jump (18-10) and was second in the 300 hurdles, and teammate Spencer Salter cleared 13 feet in the pole vault for Coronado.
