BOYS TRACK: Rubio takes three events, leads Dragons to win

Omar Rubio won three individual events Wednesday to help host Del Sol’s boys track team win a four-team meet.

Rubio won the 400-meter dash in 56 seconds, the 800 in 2:08 and the 1,600 in 4:49.

The Dragons’ Jesus Olivas won the shot put with an effort of 48 feet, 1½ inch and the discus with an throw of 119-1¼, and teammate Rashawn Lawson won the high jump (6-0) and triple jump (41-10).

Clark’s Ki’Shaun Loyd won the 100 (11.07) and 200 (23.0).

Del Sol finished with 92½ points. Sunrise Mountain was second with 81, followed by Clark with 63½ and Virgin Valley with 35.

Gators down Foothill

At Foothill, Justin Bernard and Myles Dunn each won two events to help Green Valley top the Falcons, 111½-34½.

Bernard won the 100 (11.45) and 200 (23.19), and Dunn took the 110 hurdles (17.07) and triple jump (41-2).

Las Vegas edges Liberty

At Las Vegas, Kode Mwirgi won the 110 hurdles (16.43) and pole vault (12-0) to lead the Wildcats to an 81-68 win over Liberty.

Cyrius Vea won the shot put (45-3) and discus (146-5) for the Patriots.

Butera, Skyhawks top Pioneers

At Silverado, Vinny Butera won the 400, 800 and 1,600 to lead the Skyhawks to a 100-38 win over Canyon Springs.

Butera posted a time of 52.4 in the 400, took the 800 in 2:13.7 and won the 1,600 in 4:43.4.

Matthew Arnold won the long jump (19-11½) and triple jump (44-0) for the Skyhawks.

Canyon Springs’ Bradley Alexander won the 110 hurdles (14.7) and 200 (21.9), and teammate Melvin Johnson won the shot put (42-0½) and discus (119-1).
