Chaparral 2013 Boys Track Capsule

CHAPARRAL

Head coach: Cooper Harris, fifth season

Returning lettermen: 11

Top athletes: Will Hernandez (Sr.), Tyquan Anderson (Sr.), Antonio Thomas (Sr.), James Bryant, Jason Johnson (Sr.), Cesar Perez (Jr.), Lester Izquierdo (So.), Ricardo Salas (Jr.), Cameron Smith (Jr.), Shamarlo Tinch (Sr.)

Outlook: The Cowboys bring back 11 lettermen, including all four runners from a 400-meter relay team that placed sixth in the Class 4A state meet.

Bryant finished seventh in the state in the high jump last year.

Harris also expects Hernandez to qualify for state in both the shot put and discus.

"The team looks well-rounded and deep," Harris said. "They are sprinter-heavy with a nice contingent of jumpers, distance runners and throwers. With an 'all-in' mind-set, Chaparral's boys will be competing for the Division I-A state title."
