Distance runners carry Arbor View boys to O’Dea Relays title

Noah Ayala, Ian Jackson and Keith Williams ran on three winning distance relay teams Friday to help Arbor View’s boys track team finish first in the O’Dea Relays at Palo Verde.

The trio helped the Aggies cross the line first in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8 minutes, 21.21 seconds, the 6,400 relay in 18:57.4 and the distance medley relay in 11:02.72.

Arbor View finished with 60 points. Centennial and Faith Lutheran tied for second with 55 points. Palo Verde was fourth with 54, and Green Valley took fifth with 50 points.

Bishop Gorman’s Jordan Lee, Jalen Nailor and Kyu Kelly each ran a leg on the winning 400 relay (41.67) and 800 relay (1:27.19) teams.

Green Valley’s J-vonni Sanchez was the individual winner in the long jump, clearing 21 feet, 0½ inches, and finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 43-3½.

In the girls meet, McKenzie Morgan, Kloe Littleman and Josephine Ruggieri each ran on a pair of winning distance relay teams to lead Centennial to victory.

Morgan ran on the 3,200 relay unit that won in 10:02.77 and joined Littleman and Ruggieri on the 6,400 relay team that finished first in 23:36.44.

Littleman and Ruggieri helped the Bulldogs win the distance medley relay in 13:36.24.

Gizelle Reid, Teleda Williams and Jordan Davis combined to help Rancho win three sprint relays. The trio joined Amir’a Edmond on the winning 400 relay (46.3) and 800 relay (1:37.77) units and got help from Skylar Savage to win the 1,600 relay in 3:54.08.

Centennial finished with 91 points. Green Valley finished second with 67 points. Faith Lutheran (54), Desert Oasis (49) and Palo Verde (40) rounded out the top five teams.

The Liberty girls track team won the Class 5A state title Saturday, snapping Centennial’s run of 10 straight crowns. Liberty and Faith Lutheran are boys co-champions.
