Dort’s pair of wins helps Coronado girls to Sunrise Frosh-Soph title

Sara Dort won the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs Friday to lead Coronado’s girls track team to victory at the Sunrise Region Freshman-Sophomore Championships at Green Valley.
Dort took the 800 in 2 minutes, 25.1 seconds, and won the 1,600 in 5:30.06 for the Cougars, who finished with 107½ points. Valley was second with 90, followed by Rancho (76), Green Valley (68) and Silverado (60).
Dort also ran on the winning 3,200 relay team, which set a meet record with a time of 10:12.82.
Silverado’s Amani Norris won the 100 hurdles in 16.3 and the 300 hurdles in 47.37. Liberty’s Ashlie Blake also won two events with meet-record throws, taking the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 0¾ inches, and the discus with a mark of 131-10.
Liberty’s Martin Ponce won the 800 in 2:02.97 and was second in the 1,600 (4:40.81) to help the Patriots’ boys team to the title with 86 points.
Sunrise Mountain (75) was second, followed by Green Valley (71) and Canyon Springs (67).
Silverado’s Dominic Smallwood was the top individual, winning the high jump (6-0), long jump (21-3½) and triple jump (45-0). Smallwood’s triple jump set a meet record.
Desert Pines’ Eric Wilkes won the 100 (11.61) and 200 (23.2), and Eldorado’s Eddie Esquivel took the 1,600 (4:30.96) and 3,200 (10:02.22). Esquivel’s mark in the 1,600 was a meet record.
Basic’s Austin Tilley set a meet record in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-4.
