Faith Lutheran track star Rubalcaba wins Gatorade award

Faith Lutheran standout Mark Rubalcaba was named the Gatorade Nevada Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year on Friday.

Rubalcaba won the long jump and triple jump in leading the Crusaders to the Division I-A state team title. The senior set a meet record of 24 feet, 8 inches in the long jump and posted a mark of 48-6½ in the triple jump.

Rubalcaba, who has signed with Auburn, narrowly missed winning a third event, as he placed second in the 100-meter dash. He finished in 10.95 seconds, just behind Western’s Kenric Davis, who won in 10.94.

Rubalcaba also was fourth in the 200.

Rubalcaba won the 200 (21.76), long jump (24-0) and triple jump (48-6) setting meet records in all three events at the Division I-A Southern Region meet. He also was second in the 100 in that meet.
