Mitchell leads Virgin Valley boys track to win in Early Bird meet

Kai Mitchell won three events Friday to help the Virgin Valley boys track and field team finish first at the Bulldog Early Bird meet in Mesquite.

Mitchell won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.05 seconds and also was first in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and the long jump (18-2½).

Virgin Valley scored 179 points to easily outdistance second-place Kanab (Utah), which finished with 129½ points.

Josh Lee won the triple jump with a mark of 33-4½ and the pole vault (11-0) for fifth-place Moapa Valley.

In the girls meet, Virgin Valley’s Abigail Barnum took first in two individual events. She won the 100 meters in 13.78 seconds, the 300 hurdles (49.37) and also ran a leg on the Bulldogs’ victorious 400 relay team.

White Pine scored 204 points to win the girls team title, followed by Moapa Valley (136 points). Virgin Valley was third with 125½ points.
