Mwirigi, Wildcats claim boys title at The Meadows Invitational

Kode Mwirigi won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams Saturday to help Las Vegas High’s boys track team win the Division I/I-A Challenge of The Meadows Invitational.
Mwirigi captured the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 41.89 seconds and took the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, 6 inches.
Mwirgi also ran on the Wildcats’ winning 1,600 (3:29.06) and 3,200 (8:39.19) relay teams.
The Wildcats had 160½ points to lead a nine-team field. Palo Verde was second with 108½ points, and Del Sol took third with 102.
Del Sol’s Rashawn Lawson also won two individual events, claiming the high jump (5-8) and triple jump (42-7¼).
In the Division III/IV meet, Mark Woodson swept the throwing events to help the host Mustangs to the title.
Woodson threw 138-8 in the discus and 49-0 in the shot put as The Meadows racked up 162 points. Agassi Prep was second in the six-team field with 134 points. Calvary Chapel was third with 73.
Agassi Prep’s Kobe Williams won the 200 (23.13) and 400 (53.83).
Indian Springs’ Camden Pearson was first in the 1,600 (5:08.81) and the 3,200 (11:40.85).
Emma Wahlenmaier and Kea Lani Jiu each won two events to lead Palo Verde’s girls to the title in the Divsion I/I-A Challenge.
Wahlenmaier took the 800 (2:24.5) and 1,600 (5:34.35), and Jiu won the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (31-9½) for the Panthers, who had 199½ points.
Mojave (83½) was second, followed by Las Vegas (81) and Sierra Vista (71).
The Meadows won the Division III/IV girls meet with 167 points. Calvary Chapel was second at 119, and Agassi Prep had 106.
Dani Chami won the pole vault (9-6) and long jump (16-4½), and Francie McCall was first in the 100 (13.66) and 200 (28.4) to lead the Mustangs.
Calvary Chapel’s Shelbi Byrnes won the 400 (1:01.83), 100 hurdles (17.05) and 300 hurdles (49.47).
