NOTES: Centennial’s Hartle, Legacy’s Allgood net national titles at Junior Olympics

Centennial senior-to-be Nick Hartle raced to three victories in the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships at Sacramento City College in Sacramento, Calif.

Hartle, competing for the PS Vegas Flyers club, claimed the intermediate boys 3,000-meter run Thursday with a time of 8 minutes, 51.41 seconds. He won the 1,500 in 4:00.02 on Friday and took first in the 800 (1:52.98) on Saturday.

Vegas Valley Track Club’s Avione Allgood, entering her junior year at Legacy, added two strong finishes. Allgood won the young women’s javelin title Saturday with a throw of 158 feet, 7 inches, to go with her third-place effort of 44-1½ in the shot put Thursday.

Green Valley thrower Allen Maddox, also with the Vegas Valley club, finished second in the intermediate boys discus with a toss of 160-9.

COACHING CLINIC — The Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League will host a coaching clinic at 5 p.m. Thursday at Green Valley High.

Six Locos coaches, including head coach Jim Fassel, will participate in the clinic with area high school coaches.

SEVEN-ON-SEVEN — The Locos also will host the UFL Seven-on-Seven Passing Tournament on Friday at Green Valley.

The tournament, which features eight teams comprised of area high school students, will begin at 7 a.m.

The format is essentialy football without linemen, as seven offensive skill players face seven defensive skill players.

Liberty girls win 5A state track title; tie for boys crown

The Liberty girls track team won the Class 5A state title Saturday, snapping Centennial’s run of 10 straight crowns. Liberty and Faith Lutheran are boys co-champions.
