Palo Verde boys, girls capture Spring Break Invitational

Walter Birdsong and Chaz Thomas each won two events Tuesday to lead the Palo Verde boys track team to a convincing win at the Spring Break Invitational at Palo Verde.

Birdsong won the 110-meter hurdles (15.7 seconds) and 300 hurdles (40.0), and Thomas took the shot put (46 feet, 3 inches) and discus (145-6).

In team scoring, Palo Verde won with 228.33 points. The Panthers were followed by Pahrump Valley (104), Valley (94.5), Eldorado (82), Durango (67.83), Rancho (35.5), Bishop Gorman (33.5) and White Pine (32.33).

Pahrump Valley’s Nick Stearns won the high jump (5-8) and pole vault (11-6).

GIRLS

Nicole Ameli won two events to help the host Panthers win the Spring Break Invitational.

Ameli took the long jump (15-5) and triple jump (32-10).

Palo Verde won with 169 points, followed by Pahrump Valley (127.5), Valley (104.5), Eldorado (71), Rancho (60.5), Durango (53.5), White Pine (47.5) and Bishop Gorman (21.5).

Pahrump Valley’s Ashley Rencher won the shot put (40-3) and discus (112-9).
