ROUNDUP: Chaparral boys, Centennial girls win at Palo Verde relays

Joeal Hotchkins won the long jump, and a pair of Chaparral teams took sprint relays as the Cowboys breezed to the boys title Saturday at the Palo Verde relays.
Hotchkins registered a jump of 21 feet, 2¾ inches to capture the long jump.
Chaparral had two relay teams tie for first in the 400 relay in 42.47 seconds and won the 1,200 relay (2:58.74) as the Cowboys finished with 77 points.
Centennial (56) took second, followed by Foothill (52) in the 15-team field.
Centennial was the only other team to win two relay races, taking the 3,200 relay (8:22.23) and the distance medley relay (11:09.8).
In the girls meet, Karli Johonnot and LaTangie Richards each won a field event, and Centennial captured the 3,200 relay to win a close team contest.
The Bulldogs had 65½ points. Foothill was second with 58, followed by Coronado with 57.
Johonnot cleared 4-10 to take the high jump. Richards’ effort of 16-0 took the long jump.
Centennial’s 3,200 relay team finished in 10:23.6.
Western won three relays, taking the 400 (47.8), 800 (1:42.79) and 1,600 (3:51.87).
