ROUNDUP: Day, Cougars claim title

Laughlin's Robert Day took first-place in both the 100-meter dash (11.81 seconds) and the 200 (24.39) Saturday at the Laughlin Invitational. 

The Cougars also won the 400, 800 and 3,200 relays to grab the top spot with a team score of 164 points.

Jarrett Gubler placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.24 to help White Pine finish second.

Kemberly Mejia had the quickest time in the girls 3,200-meter run with a mark of 13:52.02 for Laughlin, which finished first with 118 points.

Phallen Nelson took first in the 100 (13.41) and 200 (27.57) for Calvary Chapel.

Coronado’s Brown wins two events
Coronado’s Brandon Brown took first in both the boys 110-meter hurdles (18.56) and the high jump (5-6) in the Southeast Newcomer meet at Foothill.

The Cougars also had first-place finishes from Christian Alvarez in the 100-meter dash (11.60) and the 200-meter dash (23.93).

Myrioni Khetaguri grabbed the top spots in both the long jump (18-1 1/2) and the triple jump (35-9 1/2).

Kara Kopolow paced the Coronado girls squad with first-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (28.17) and the 400-meter dash (1:07.54).

Liberty girls win 5A state track title; tie for boys crown

The Liberty girls track team won the Class 5A state title Saturday, snapping Centennial’s run of 10 straight crowns. Liberty and Faith Lutheran are boys co-champions.
