ROUNDUP: Gators eclipse Falcons at Sunrise Frosh-Soph Meet with record-setting throw

Green Valley sophomore Allen Maddox won two events Friday to lead the Gators’ boys track team to the title at the Sunrise Region Freshman-Sophomore Meet at Del Sol.

Maddox took the discus with a meet-record mark of 148 feet, 11 inches, and the shot put with a throw of 45-3. His heave in the discus eclipsed the previous mark of 148-8, set by Bonanza’s Ryan Theriault in 1991.

Green Valley won with 125½ points, followed by Foothill (83) and Canyon Springs (55).

Green Valley’s Durrell McDonald won the high jump with a meet-record mark of 6-8, surpassing the bar set by Eldorado’s Aaron Woods at 6-4 in 1991.

Valley’s Bryon Peeples won the 200-meter dash in 23.05 seconds and the 400 in 50.79.

Foothill girls outduel Canyon Springs
