ROUNDUP: Pioneers girls win behind five double winners

Five athletes won two events apiece Tuesday to lead the Canyon Springs girls track team to victory in a tri-meet against host Rancho and Moapa Valley.

The Pioneers scored 81 points, followed by Rancho (48) and Moapa Valley (34).

Canyon Springs’ Marica King won the 100-meter hurdles (16.37 seconds) and 300 hurdles (46.85); Heather Hollinger claimed the 1,600 (5:54.73) and 3,200 (13:00.84); Jamila Pullum captured the 200 (27.85) and 400 (1:01.28); Shavee Lighten won the long jump (15 feet, 2½ inches) and triple jump (28-7¾); and Destanae Howerton took the shot put (41-11½) and discus (112-10).

Mountain Lions beat Clark
At Sierra Vista, the Mountain Lions won the 800 (1:59.5) and 1,600 (4:44.3) relays on the way to an 82-64 victory over Clark.

Clark’s Elisa Vazquez took the 800 (2:41.7), 1,600 (5:59.4) and 3,200 (13:56.3).

Bosley, Brown shine as Cheyenne nips Mustangs
At Cheyenne, Taylor Bosley swept the hurdles and Jenae Brown took both throwing events to help the Desert Shields narrowly win a three-team meet.

Cheyenne had 72 points. Shadow Ridge was second with 71, followed by Indian Springs (10).

Bosley won the 100 hurdles in 19.6 and the 300 hurdles in 52.3.

Brown’s took the shot put (35-5) and discus (108-0).

Relays help Wolves to win
At Liberty, Basic won the 400 relay (52.8), 800 relay (1:57.7) and 3,200 relay (11:40.9) on the way to a tri-meet victory.

Basic (95) outscored Liberty (77) and Agassi Prep (2).

BOYS

Utomi, Foster lead Sierra Vista past Clark.
At Sierra Vista, Edred Utomi won the 110 hurdles (15.5), 200 (23.7) and long jump (19-11½) to lead the Mountain Lions past Clark, 80-66.

Jace Foster took the shot put (39-8½) and discus (108-9) for Sierra Vista.

Sayles leads Pioneers to win
At Rancho, James Sayles won the long jump (20-3¼) and triple jump (41-10½) to help Canyon Springs score 92 points and beat Moapa Valley (54) and Rancho (25).

Johnson wins twice to help Cheyenne
At Cheyenne, Jeremy Johnson swept the throwing events to help the Desert Shields win a three-team meet.

Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 43-10 and the discus (138-9).

Cheyenne had 87 points. Shadow Ridge was second with 79, followed by Indian Springs with five points.

Shadow Ridge’s Sam Mahar won the 800 (2:11) and 1,600 (5:01).

Murray, Cisneros lift Liberty to win
At Liberty, Shaun Murray and Eric Cisneros won two events each to help the host Patriots beat Basic and Agassi Prep.

Liberty scored 96 points, ahead of Basic (89) and Agassi Prep (1).

Murray won the 100 (10.9) and 200 (22.3), and Cisneros captured the shot put (42-10) and discus (126-3).
