ROUNDUP: Smith, Morant help Gorman boys roll to win

Shawn Smith and Demetris Morant won two events apiece Tuesday to help Bishop Gorman’s boys track team cruise to a 101-36 home victory over Spring Valley.

Smith won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 55.6 seconds, and the 3,200 in 11:27.1.

Morant took the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches, and the long jump with a leap of 20-6.

Spring Valley’s Jahi Cooke won the 110 hurdles in 16.1 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 46.7.

Yslas leads Cougars to victory
At Liberty, Cory Yslas won the high jump at 5-8 and the long jump at 19-11 to help Coronado eke out a 77-69 victory over the host Patriots.

Liberty’s Jordan Kapeli took the shot put at 51-4 and the discus at 148-2.

Shelton, Stemley lead Durango to victory
At Durango, Matt Shelton and Brandon Stemley each won two events to lead the host Trailblazers to 108½-47½ victory over Western.

Shelton took the 800 in 2:05 and the 1,600 in 4:46.

Stemley won the long jump at 17-1 and the triple jump at 36-1.

Western’s Kameron Ringgold won the 100 in 11.4 seconds and the 200 in 23.0.

Shadow Ridge wins tri-meet
At Shadow Ridge, the host Mustangs won eight events on their way to 72½ points and a victory over Faith Lutheran (54) and Spring Mountain (51½).

Liberty girls win 5A state track title; tie for boys crown

The Liberty girls track team won the Class 5A state title Saturday, snapping Centennial’s run of 10 straight crowns. Liberty and Faith Lutheran are boys co-champions.
