SKYHAWK INVITATIONAL: Gourrier guides Centennial girls to team title

Alexis Gourrier won three individual events Saturday to lead Centennial’s girls track and field team to the championship at the Skyhawk Invitational at Silverado.
Gourrier won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 16.34 seconds and also added first-place finishes in the 1,600 (5:07.67) and 3,200 (11:08.16) for the Bulldogs, who racked up 141 points to claim the team title.
Palo Verde was a distant second with 80 points, followed by Arbor View (76) and Liberty (55½). Coronado scored 43 points to round out the top five girls teams.
Peyton Green of Centennial was second in the 100, 200 and 400, and teammate Talie Bonds finished second in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
Arbor View’s Madison Aldred swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 12.25 seconds and the 200 in 24.86.
Centennial’s boys edged host Silverado 88-86½ for the team title, despite having only one individual champion: Savon Scarver won the 110 hurdles for the Bulldogs in 14.93 seconds.
Scarver was second in the 300 hurdles to Dimitri Hill of Cimarron-Memorial.
Zakee Washington won the 400 (48.64), Micah Weber was first in the pole vault (15-0) and Vernon Jackson took the long jump (22-10) for the Skyhawks.
Las Vegas’ Tre James won two events, blazing a 10.65 in the 100 to go along with his title in the 200 (21.44).
Green Valley’s Austin Rogers was the final double-winner on the boys side as the distance standout was first in the 1,600 (4:22.38) and the 3,200 (9:37.49).
