SMALL SCHOOLS: Moapa Valley follows Fibel to 3A boys title

Malta Fibel won two events Saturday to help Moapa Valley capture the Class 3A boys track team title at Damonte Ranch.

Fibel took the long jump with an effort of 20 feet, 6  inches and the 200-meter dash in 22.78 seconds.

He also finished second in the 400 in 51.48, adding to a second-place finish Friday in the triple jump with an effort of 42-1.

The Pirates had 162 points. Fernley was second with 96 points and Sparks third with 87.

In the Class 1A boys meet, Trinity’s Budweiser Hawkins won three events Saturday.

Hawkins took the 200 in 23.27, the high jump with a clearance of 6-4, and the long jump with a leap of 20-10.

Sierra Lutheran easily won the boys 1A title with 156 points, followed by Spring Mountain with 123.

Rite of Passage pulled away to take the 2A crown with 151 points, 45 more than second-place Whittell.

Spring Creek won the 3A girls title with 159 points to Fernley’s 134. Boulder City was third with 79.

Whittell won the 2A crown with 115 points. Pershing County was second with 96.

Wells had 142 points to take the girls 1A trophy. Beatty finished second with 85.
