SMALL SCHOOLS: The Meadows’ Gosse makes name, wins girls 3,200
The Gosse name has become something of legend around The Meadows.
Freshman Bailey Gosse added to it Friday.
Gosse won the 3,200-meter run in 12 minutes, 21.2 seconds to help the Mustangs’ girls track and field team to first place after the first day of the Class 2A state meet at Damonte Ranch in Reno.
Yerington is second with 50, and White Pine third (48).
Lauren Henry set a state record in the 100, blitzing the field to win in 12.1 seconds. The senior also anchored the winning 400 relay team in 52.71, and helped the 1,600 relay squad to a third-place finish.
Rite of Passage leads the boys meet with 89 points, followed by White Pine (42) and Laughlin (33). Jobe Thomas took the long jump with a mark of 21 feet to pace the Cougars.
Calvary Chapel’s Cameron Murphy won the 200 in 49.62.
The meet continues for all classifications at 8 a.m. Saturday at Damonte Ranch.
CLASS 3A
Boulder City’s boys took the 800 relay in 1:34.12 to help the Eagles to third place after the first day of the 3A state meet at Damonte Ranch.
Boulder City has 36 points. Churchill is first with 85, followed by Elko with 74.
Elko leads the girls meet with 85 points, and Churchill County has 48.
Boulder City's girls won the 400 relay in 52.23 to help the team to 31 points and sixth place.
CLASS 1A
Spring Mountain’s Maurice Eppenger won the 400 in 52.02, and teammate Montell Russum took the 110 hurdles in 15.5 to help the Eagles to second place with 78 points after the first day of the 1A state boys meet at Damonte Ranch.
Spring Mountain trails Sierra Lutheran by seven points. Tonopah is third at 33, followed by Beatty (22).
Beatty’s Dakota Dawson won the long jump with a leap of 19-1.
Beatty’s Carey Johnson and Christina Thompson went 1-2 in the long jump to help the Hornets to 59 points and second place in the girls meet.
Johnson won with a mark of 30-4, and Thompson posted a leap of 29-6.
Sierra Lutheran is first with 66 points.
Lund’s Emily Cornelison took the shot put with a heave of 34-5.
Indian Springs’ 400 relay squad took first in 55.07, edging Lund (55.17).
