TRACK: Centennial defends Heikotter Invitational titles

The Centennial girls track team won eight events at the Heikotter Invitational at Faith Lutheran on Saturday, running away with the team score and defending its title from the last season.

Centennial’s boys team won five events to win the meet, also winning for the second year in a row.

The Bulldog girls had 148 team points, more than doubling the score of second-place Arbor View, which had 73½. Liberty placed third with 66 . The Centennial boys had 109 points. Coronado was the runner-up with 79, and Arbor View was third with 60½.

Centennial’s Alexis Gourrier won the girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 41.43 seconds, beating the second-place finisher by 35.54 seconds. She also won the 1,600 with a time of 5:21.07.

Tallie Bonds won the 100 hurdles in 14.33, and cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to take the high jump.

Karina Haymore won the 800 for the Bulldogs with a time of 2:13.75, and finished second in the 400 to teammate Kennedy Brace, who ran it in 57.0 seconds.

Centennial’s girls won the 3,200 relay with a time of 10:08.26, and won the 1,600 relay in 3:54.66.

Green Valley’s Deborah Grant won the 100 (12.35) and 200 (24.83).

On the boys side, the Bulldogs won the 800 relay (1:26.82) and 1,600 relay (3:22.15) and also had three individual champs. James Johnson won the triple jump (49-3½), Savon Scarver took the 110 hurdles (14.63), and Randall Jubilee won the 400 (49.91) for Centennial.

Desert Oasis’ Nick Benham won the shot put (56-1) and discus (169-10).

Palo Verde’s Daniel Ziems won the 1,600 (4:27.62) and was the only runner to break the 10-minute mark in the 3,200, winning the race in 9:58.13

Bishop Gorman’s Nikolas Bracken won the 100 (10.96) and 200 (22.59).
