Trio helps Moapa Valley girls win Bulldog Early Bird Invitational

Natalie Mills, Mariah Mendoza and Hannah Watson each won one individual event and finished second in another Friday to help Moapa Valley’s girls track team win the Bulldog Early Bird Invitational in Mesquite.

Mills took first in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.48 seconds and was second in the 100 hurdles.

Mendoza’s 29-foot, 8-inch effort in the shot put took first place. She was second in the discus.

Watson cleared 8-0 to easily take the pole vault. She was second in the long jump.

The Pirates finished with 146½ points. Virgin Valley was second with 121½, and White Pine took third with 119.

Desert Pines’ Jazmin Felix won the 3,200 in 11:47.22 and was second in the 1,600.

Virgin Valley’s Macee Bundy captured the 200 in 27.38 and placed second in the 400.

In the boys meet, Desert Pines’ Devin McGee had a hand in four wins to help the Jaguars to a second-place finish.

McGee won the 100 (11.34) and 200 (22.79) and ran a leg on the Jaguars’ winning 400 relay (43.81) and 800 relay (1:31.98).

Jamel Brown also won two events for the Jaguars, taking the 110 hurdles in 16.1 and the 300 hurdles in 41.88.

The Meadows’ Shahzaib Akbar swept the throws, winning the discus (112-9) and shot put (43-7¾).

Pine View (Utah) won the team title with 139 points. Desert Pines had 123 points, followed by Virgin Valley with 86.
