Allgood takes second at nationals

Avione Allgood placed second in the girls javelin at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held June 23-27 on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Legacy junior-to-be finished with a final mark of 163 feet, 1 inch, behind Allison Updike of Tamaqua Area High School (Pa.), who threw 167-2.

Allgood held the lead until the final round of the competition, when Updike’s heave surpassed the mark on the final throw of the competition.

With the runner-up finish, Allgood qualified for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick. The event runs July 16-25.
