ROUNDUP: Howerton-Davis, Simms power Pioneers to girls track win

Destanae Howerton-Davis and Savonni Simms won two events apiece Wednesday to lead Canyon Springs’ girls track team to 81 points and a victory over host Boulder City (51) and Sunrise Mountain (40).

Howerton-Davis won the shot put (39 feet, 3 inches) and discus (98-8) for the Pioneers, and Simms took the 100 hurdles (16.4 seconds) and 300 hurdles (51.0).

Centennial trio dominates
At Overton, Karli Johonnot, LaTangie Richard and Takara Shaw each won two events to carry Centennial to 105 points and an easy victory over Palo Verde (68) and host Moapa Valley (13).

Johonnot won the 300 hurdles (45.4) and high jump (5-4) for the Bulldogs, Richard took the 200 (26.69) and long jump (16-0), and Shaw took top honors in the shot put (37-9) and discus (92-7).

Liberty cruises past Del Sol
At Liberty, Joslyn Evans and Adwoa Fosu took two events apiece to lead the Patriots in a 111-29 rout of Del Sol.

Evans finished first in the 1,600 (5:53.7) and 3,200 (12:42.8) for Liberty, and Fosu took the 400 (1:03.3) and triple jump (32-9).

Del Sol’s Stevie Scott won the shot put (29-7) and discus (88-11).

Melton leads Las Vegas
At Las Vegas, Breanna Melton won the 100 hurdles (16.7) and 300 hurdles (48.7) to lead Las Vegas to a first-place finish with 69 points.

Desert Pines (66) was second and Eldorado (26) third.

Eldorado's Claudia Gonzlez won the 800 (2:38.2), 1,600 (5:50) and 3,200 (12:43.3).
