Roundup: Trio helps Virgin Valley girls win home meet

Sarah Walters, Julia Ramirez and Hailee Thornley each won one individual event and ran on a winning relay team Wednesday to help host Virgin Valley’s girls track team defeat Sunrise Mountain and Cheyenne.

Walters won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 47.4 seconds and was a part of the winning 1,600 relay team.

Ramirez won the 300 hurdles in 49.4 and joined Thornley on the winning 800 relay team. Thornley was first in the triple jump, covering 28 feet, 4 inches.

Virgin Valley finished with 73 points. Sunrise Mountain had 66, and Cheyenne had 33.

The Miners’ Kapua Pulotu won the discus (119-7) and shot put (36-2).

Centennial wins tri-meet

At Palo Verde, Andrea Giles ran a leg on the winning 400, 800 and 1,600 relay teams to help Centennial defeat Arbor View and Palo Verde.

Centennial had 107 points. Palo Verde finished with 50 and Arbor View 29.

Kennedy Brace, Kendall Hawkins and Jocelyn Grecco all won one individual event and ran on a winning relay for the Bulldogs.

Brace won the 800 in 2:26.29 and ran on the 800 relay team. Hawkins won the long jump with a distance of 15-1¼ and joined Grecco on the winning 400 relay team. Grecco cleared 4-6 to win the high jump.

Palo Verde’s Nordia Campbell won the 200 (27.13) and was second in the 100.

Arbor View’s Alina Oranchak won the 100 hurdles (18.37) and took second in the 800.

Faith Lutheran wins quadrangular

At Faith Lutheran, Dubem Ezenaolue won two individual events and ran on the winning 400 relay team to help the Crusaders win a four-team meet.

Faith Lutheran finished with 158 points. Spring Valley was second with 115½, followed by Bonanza with 33½ and The Meadows with 18.

Ezenaolue won the 100 in 13.1 and the 200 in 27.64. Teammate Sanniyah Haye won both the shot put (32-0) and discus (109-9).

Spring Valley’s Isabella Iacob won the long jump (15-9¼) and the 400 (62.76) and ran on the winning 800 relay team.

The Meadows’ Ellen Hirsberg won both the 800 (2:25.97) and 1,600 (5:24.31).

Bishop Gorman tops Desert Oasis

At Desert Oasis, Emilia Puskas won two individual events and was a part of the winning 3,200 relay team to propel Bishop Gorman to a 99-34 win over the Diamondbacks.

Puskas took both the 800 (2:32.65) and the 1,600 (5:41.88). Teammates Devyn Rosenberg and Olivia Smith also won two individual events

Rosenberg won the 100 in 13.07 and the 200 in 27.86. Smith cleared 4-10 to win the high jump and was first in the long jump (16-4½).

Sydney Rios, Aayzia Dumas, Jadynn Glover and Erin Gibson each ran on two winning relay teams for the Diamondbacks, who won the 400, 800 and 1,600 relays.
