Coronado’s Boman chosen second-team All-American

This week was already going to be special for Coronado boys volleyball player Eric Boman, who graduated Wednesday night.
But it became even sweeter a day earlier when the senior outside hitter was named a second-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
“It shows that volleyball in Nevada has come a long way,” Boman said. “Our team went to California and competed and did well in those (nonleague) tournaments.”
Boman, a three-year starter, had 394 kills and 146 digs this season, guiding the Cougars to a 22-2 record, a second straight Sunrise Region title and the Class 4A state final.
“Our team, we definitely took it up to the next level in the playoffs,” said Boman, who also was voted the Southeast League Most Valuable Player. “Our passing was better; we were a more motivated team.”
Boman said he has been recruited by Long Beach State among other schools, but will put his volleyball future on hold to go on a two-year Mormon mission.
Boman is the only player from Nevada on the All-American squad, in its third year of existence. Only seniors were eligible.
