VOLLEYBALL: Carter vaults Valley boys to tournament championship

Tournament Most Valuable Player Sean Carter finished with 30 assists, eight digs and two blocks as Valley’s boys volleyball team defeated Arbor View 25-19, 20-25, 15-9 on Saturday in the championship match of the Longhorn Invitational at Legacy.
Jack Heavey added 15 kills, nine digs and two aces for the Vikings on the way to being named to the all-tournament team.
Valley went undefeated in seven matches at the two-day tournament.
The Vikings also received key contributions from Matt Ballaro (seven kills, four digs), Lorenzo Capannolo (six kills, five digs, two blocks) and David Delaney (17 digs).
The other members of the all-tournament team were Arbor View’s Chris Heron and Brian Porter, Legacy’s Tanner Compton, Foothill’s Kendell Andrews, Las Vegas’ Mike Burgess and Bonanza’s Kellen Layne.
Valley 2, Arbor View 0 — At Legacy, Carter had 18 assists and two digs, and Ballaro added nine kills, three digs and two blocks to help the Vikings defeat the Aggies 25-19, 25-22 in a semifinal at the Longhorn Invitational.
Heavey chipped in with five kills, seven digs and two blocks, and Delaney finished with 11 digs and two aces for Valley.
Valley 2, Foothill 1 — At Legacy, Heavey recorded 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks, and Carter had 25 assists, three digs, two kills and two blocks in the Vikings’ 25-21, 22-25, 15-13 victory over the Falcons at the Longhorn Invitational.
Delaney finished with 11 digs and two aces for Valley, which also got five kills and six digs from Capannolo and five kills and two digs from Ballaro.
Valley 2, Las Vegas 1 — At Legacy, Heavey put away 14 kills to go along with four digs, and Capannolo added nine kills and five digs as the Vikings rallied to beat the Wildcats 20-25, 25-18, 15-13 at the Longhorn Invitational.
Carter finished with 26 assists, three digs, one kill and one ace, and Ballaro chipped in with seven kills and six digs for Valley. Teammate Micco Carinaud had three blocks.
