VOLLEYBALL: Weston, Clawson propel Palo Verde boys to Northwest League title

Andrew Weston dished out 43 assists, and Brigham Clawson had 13 kills as Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team locked up the outright Northwest League title Thursday with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 win over host Shadow Ridge.
It is the first league title since 2006 for the Panthers, who open the Sunset Region playoffs against Bonanza on Tuesday.
Mitchell Tingey added nine kills and 13 digs for Palo Verde, and teammate E.J. Vanderstelt chipped in with nine kills.
Arbor View 3, Durango 0 — At Arbor View, Darien Bradley finished with 14 kills and seven digs to lead the Aggies to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 sweep of the Trailblazers.
Kaneen Manuel added nine kills and six digs for Arbor View.
Paris Estrada supplied 17 digs and nine kills, and Pedro Abrego dished out 14 assists to lead Durango.
Sierra Vista 3, Spring Valley 0 — At Spring Valley, Clyde Balagtas notched 14 kills, 10 digs and four aces, and Tyler Hollings had 13 kills and two blocks as the Mountain Lions swept the Grizzlies, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.
Julius Sison added 42 assists and six digs for Sierra Vista.
Rancho 3, Green Valley 2 — At Rancho, Aaron Robles had 39 assists, eight digs and two aces as the Rams secured the Northeast League’s final playoff spot by outlasting the Gators, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 15-25, 15-13.
Jef Rebibes added 20 kills and seven digs, and Andrew Dittrich had seven blocks and six kills for Rancho. Vladimir Veynovich supplied 13 digs, four kills, three blocks and two aces for the Rams, who got seven kills and eight digs from Ryan Hafen.
Kenan Haywood had 12 kills and seven blocks, and Brian Ellington added 11 kills and eight digs for Green Valley. Tyler Topham had seven kills and eight digs, and Ethan Hunt added nine kills, six digs and three blocks for the Gators.
Silverado 3, Las Vegas 0 — At Silverado, Curtis Hadland had 19 kills and five blocks, and Shawn Steckel added six kills and three blocks in the Skyhawks’ 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Wildcats.
Joey Sharp-Halpin added four kills and six blocks for Silverado, and teammates Angelo DeSantis and Tyler Cross had four kills each.
The teams tied for second place in the Northeast League at 7-3, but Silverado won the tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed based on the number of head-to-head sets won (4-3). The Skyhawks take on Eldorado in the opening round of the Sunrise Region playoffs on Tuesday.
Guillermo Gonzalez had seven kills, and Chris Kamphshoff chipped in with 12 digs for Las Vegas, which meets Foothill in the first round.
Valley 3, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, Jack Heavey finished with 23 kills and two blocks, and Sean Cater added 42 assists, eight digs and two aces as the Vikings beat the Pioneers 22-25, 25-11, 25-10, 25-13 to complete an undefeated Northeast League season.
Lorenzo Capannolo had 13 kills and 13 digs, and Matt Ballaro chipped in with nine kills and seven digs for Valley, which got 10 digs from David Delaney.
Burnadino Faulafo and Immanuel Tufuga each had seven kills and three blocks for Canyon Springs. Carl Esteban added 17 assists and five digs for the Pioneers.
Mojave 3, Western 1 — At Mojave, Christian Limtiaco posted 18 kills and 12 digs, and Jovan Carrazco finished with 42 assists and three aces to help the Rattlers to a 22-25, 25-7, 25-14, 25-21 win over the Warriors.
Matt Albinio added 13 kills for Mojave.
Derrick Rinfrow had 10 kills, three aces and two blocks, and Vadell Wilson chipped in with seven kills and three blocks for Western. Teammate Braeden Smith finished with 15 assists and three kills.
Cheyenne 3, Clark 2 — At Clark, Deonte Perkins had 15 kills and eight blocks, and Darius Gantt added nine kills, seven digs and seven blocks to help the Desert Shields rally for a 21-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-12 win over the Chargers.
Juan Valenzuela finished with 17 assists for Cheyenne.
Jeremy Bavers posted 12 kills and six blocks, and Walt Benda contributed 10 kills for Clark. Teammate Walter Regalado handed out 25 assists.
