Outlook: Coming off a runner-up finish in the Southern League last season, the Pirates had high hopes for the season.

But those took an early detour when outside hitter Malary Reid went down with an injury during the third day of practice. She will be out indefinitely.

“While disappointing, this major blow has not halted the team spirit and determination to do what it takes to make it to the state tournament this season,” Matheson said.
