2A REGIONALS: Calvary Chapel rallies in fifth set to edge Lynx

Calvary Chapel girls volleyball coach Nick Davis was resigned to the fact that his team was about to lose in the Class 2A Southern League final Saturday.

The Lions trailed 12-6 in the fifth set at Lincoln County, and the host Lynx needed only three points to earn the title.

Calvary Chapel, however, had a little magic left. The Lions closed to within 13-12, then tied the set at 14-14 before pulling off an amazing 25-23, 16-25, 26-28, 25-13, 17-15 win in the final at Panaca.

“To be honest, I wrote it off,” Davis said. “ I just thought it was over. I don’t know how it happened, but the girls just kept fighting.”

Calvary Chapel (30-10) will face Whittell in a state semifinal Friday at Silverado. Lincoln County (18-13) meets Yerington in the other semifinal.

Brettani Davis had 29 digs, four kills and three aces, and Brooke Davis supplied 17 digs and 18 assists for Calvary Chapel. Deja Harris spiked 12 kills, and Caitlyn Chamberlain contributed 11 digs for the Lions.

"I just reminded our girls of what it was that got us here," Nick Davis said. "They stuck with their defense."

Calvary Chapel 3, The Meadows 1 — Harris and Jamie Mejia each had 10 kills as the Lions advanced past the Mustangs in the semifinals, 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17.

Brettani Davis had 24 digs, and Brooke Davis had 18 assists and 15 digs for Calvary Chapel, which also got five digs each from Athena Lewis and Chamberlain.

Alex Hall paced The Meadows (14-19) with 25 digs, 12 kills and 14 assists, and teammate Victoria Onufrieff added 33 digs. Divya Ramakrishnan distributed 16 assists for the Mustangs.

In the other semifinal, Lincoln County swept Lake Mead, 25-21, 25-14, 25-19.
