Composed Eagles win Class 1A quarterfinal match

Lake Mead’s girls volleyball team arrived at Desert Oasis on Friday for the Class 1A Southern Region tournament in a calm and composed manner for its first-round matchup against Trinity.

That confidence showed as the No. 2-seeded Eagles cruised past the Thunder, 25-9, 25-10, 25-8.

Ashley Newton led Lake Mead (29-4-3) with 10 kills, four digs and three blocks. Setter Jessica Rinaldi had 17 assists for the Eagles.

The Eagles will face third-seeded Tonopah in the semifinals at 10 a.m today.

Andrea Martinez led Trinity (5-14) with three kills, three digs and two blocks.

Tonopah 3, Beatty 0 — The Muckers (20-5) breezed past sixth-seeded Beatty, 25-19, 25-22, 25-12.

Pahranagat Valley 3, Henderson International 0 — The top-seeded Panthers took care of business against the Wolverines in a 25-8, 25-13, 25-10 victory.

Chanae Canning led Pahranagat Valley (21-3) with nine kills and three aces. Dakota Day added six kills and three aces and Addie Canning nine assists for the Panthers.

Brittany Huff’s five assists and two aces led Henderson International (6-21).
 
Round Mountain 3, Lund 1 — Fourth-seeded Round Mountain (18-8) nipped the Mustangs (9-10), 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14.

Round Mountain will face  Pahranagat Valley in the semifinals at 11:40 a.m. today.

The two semifinal winners play for the title at 2 p.m.
